What are your thoughts on the new Rotterdam Rules?

An interesting article outlaying what HGV Ireland think is here:-

The International Road Transport Union (IRU) is worried that a new UN convention will cause a serious threat to the harmonised application of laws, which govern the road transport industry. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Carriage of Goods Wholly or Partly by Sea (the “Rotterdam Rules”), will be open to the States for signing at a ceremony which will take place on 23 September 2009 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

The new Rotterdam Rules will apply the international carriage of goods by sea and to the land transport of goods preceding or following the maritime segment,” According to the IRU.

This provision, the IRU says seriously threatens the harmonised application of laws governing the road transport industry, and notably the rules relative to national and international transport contracts.

If you deliver to Ireland how will this affect you and your business?

Your thoughts are most welcome, as always
